The Power of Peers: 7 May 2019

13th March 2019

Join SRN in Irvine for this Ayrshire peer support focused event and networking opportunity.

Peers are people who have a shared experience of mental health problems and recovery. Peers can use this lived experience to help other people who are facing similar challenges. Peers can also use ther expertise to inform the development of new policies and improve services by using their own lived experience to help design and deliver services.

SRN are facilitating this event to provide an opportunity for people to connect, share and learn from each other. There will be workshops, discussion groups and opportunities to explore how peers can be more involved as ‘experts by experience’ to:

  • Support other people in groups or on a one to one basis?
  • Help shape the way services are designed and delivered?

The event will also provide a forum where people can discuss

  • The support peers need and how can they support each other?
  • How we can encourage more people to become peer supporters?

This event is open to anyone but will have a particular focus on the development of peer support in Ayrshire. It will be of particular interest to people with their own lived experience of mental health problems as well as people who support people to recover in either a personal or professional capacity.
