Recovery Walk 2018 open for registration!
22nd August 2018
We are excited to announce that you can now register your place for Recovery Walk 2018!
Together we flourish
Recovery Walk Scotland is the largest recovery event in Scotland. It is organised and led by a council of Recovery activists from all over the country. For the first time in Scotland, the addiction recovery movement and the mental health recovery movement will hold a joint recovery walk in Glasgow.
The Scottish Recovery Consortium provides full staff support to the Recovery Walk Scotland council. The event is also supported by Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAAD) and national mental health organisations See Me, the national programme to end mental health discrimination, and the Scottish Recovery Network (SRN).
Everyone is welcome; people in recovery, friends, families, treatment providers, supporters and next-door neighbours.
Recovery is happening – let’s celebrate it!
The more people that know about the Recovery Walk the better – visible recovery shows that recovery is possible and is happening. It is vital in challenging stigma but also important to show others that recovery is possible and encourage them to begin their own recovery or to keep going. The Walk and Recovery Festival is an opportunity for everyone to feel and see the benefits that recovery brings to the country.
We would be delighted if you could join us.
On being a partner for Recovery Walk Scotland 2018, SRN Director Frank Reilly commented:
The world appears to be experiencing a crisis in what it means to be a human. Much of that dialogue is about what divides us and not what we all have in common. And yet distress is a 100% human experience which many of us will encounter today and tomorrow. Being isolated, not feeling part of the community, can amplify that distress in ways that can make it almost impossible to manage. SRN with others have documented and explored stories of distress which tell us that connection is one of the most important factors in the journey of recovery from distress. That is why we fully support the 2018 recovery walk which recognises this common experience and demonstrates that together we are stronger and we can be the embodied hope that can help others take that first step towards recovery. On our own we have achieved many things. Together we will change the world.
Recovery Walk 2018 is a free event and takes place on Saturday 15th September from 10.30am until 4.00pm at Glasgow Green.
