24th April 2013

The Scottish Recovery Network (SRN) in association with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) are delighted to announce the launch of a new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training workshop for GPs.

‘How to Effectively Focus GP Consultations: When Less is More’ is a two-hour workshop created to support practitioner resilience in the face of patients with complex needs and long term conditions. It is facilitated by SRN Director, Simon Bradstreet and Network Manager, John McCormack.

Based on learning from mental health recovery, it will provide a range of skills to enable practitioners be ever more focused during consultations, getting the most from this time-limited intervention for them and patients.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Improved understanding of the context and rationale for assets-based, strengths and recovery focused approaches
  • Tools and techniques for effective focused conversations
  • Skills for negotiating shared responsibility and avoiding the ‘expert trap’
  • Skills to elicit hopes and aspirations and an understanding of how to shift the focus from problems to solutions

The workshop takes place on Tuesday 21st May from 6pm to 8pm at NES, 89 Hydepark Street Glasgow, G3 8BW. For more information contact Danielle Finlay on 0141 223 1470 or partnership@nes.scot.nhs.uk.
