New First Minister for Scotland

We would like to congratulate Humza Yousaf MSP on his appointment of First Minister for Scotland and welcome the new cabinet.

The Scottish Recovery Network team would also like to congratulate new Health Secretary Michael Matheson MSP. A warm welcome is also extended to Maree Todd MSP, to the role of Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing & Sport.

As an organisation but also as part of the Scottish Mental Health Partnership we very much look forward to working with Maree. We will continue to support the development of the Scottish Government’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy. Through the A Chance for Change report and animation we will share what the people of Scotland told us they want to see in this new and ambitious plan.

Our forthcoming work will see us outline your feedback from our ‘Help Shape Scotland’s new Self-Harm Strategy’ Recovery Conversation Cafés (coming soon!). It will also see the start of our Creating Hope with Peer Support project. This project is part of the initial three-year action plan for the Scottish Government and COSLA’s Suicide Prevention Strategy: Creating Hope Together

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Kevin Stewart MSP, who is leaving his role as Minster for Mental Health and Wellbeing. Always approachable and supportive, his recognition of the importance of the role of people with lived experience in developing mental health support has been a breath of fresh air. As has his understanding of the powerful impact peer support can have in suicide prevention and mental health recovery. We wish him well in his new role as the new Transport Minister for Scotland. We hope our paths will continue to cross.

It’s a time of change and opportunity in Scotland and we look forward to working together to make mental health recovery real.

Scottish Recovery Network team.
