Three things really helped me on the road to recovery.
  • A course of CBT.
  • Mary Ellan Copeland's WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan).
  • A compassionate lady psychiatrist.
As a writer I've started to look at my condition as a gift. I know that sounds strange, but it gives me a different outlook compared to other writers. I've also adopted the trendy 'keeping it real' motto, and now practice Tai Chi. The philosophy of which is just common sense. I still have my highs and lows, but they are not so severe. I try to have a good balance in all I do these days. That includes a healthy food regime. I really don't think I would be this health conscious if I hadn't encountered mental illness. That being said, it was really scary. All I can do now is work on the things that I can control, including my finances (really important). That's about it really. I Hope this makes sense and helps someone.
