The following thoughts on recovery were shared through the ‘Submit your story’ section of the website.

I have suffered depression for 16 years and I’m only 34. It’s fair to say most of those years were spent in denial that I had mental health issues, due to the fear of being labelled. It led me to have a nervous breakdown last year and only then did I admit I had a problem.

On the whole, I picked myself up, accepted the help offered to me via health services and proceeded to getting better. I’m now a f/t student studying mental health and I’m no longer afraid to let my voice be heard, I don’t care about being labelled anymore.

At the end of the day, like the opinionated members of society, I’m still  human, I’m a depressive but I’m proud of my achievements and no one will stand in my way now!!
