Sharing Stories FAQs |
How do I submit a story?Generally most stories are submitted by email, simplifying the editing process but please contact us in the first instance to discuss the process and how we might support you to share your experiences. What guidelines do you have for writing a story? The stories we share on the website are personal in both content and style. Each story should have a title and an introduction, although we are happy to assist you in this. We only ask that you consider the wider audience of the site in the language you use. We ask that you try not to use words that might prove difficult for people to interpret. This aside it is your personal recovery story. It is your perspective on recovery and could be gained from a lived experience or as a carer or service provider. Only you can tell it in a way that reflects and is representative of your experience. If you intend to submit a piece for the service providers section please ensure that your organisation is fully aware, alternatively do not mention your title or place of work. We also ask that you let us know whether these are your personal views or the official views of your organisation. I have submitted my story, what happens now?Stories submitted for publication are initially edited for syntax and grammar and are then placed in SRN story format. We may also require relevant independent advice from other individuals or organisations with regards to posting some submissions. Once edited, documents are then returned to individuals for final consent before they are published. We then inform the author when the story is available on the website.I posted my story but I now want to remove it, how do I do this?At any time individuals have the right to edit, update or withdraw their story from the SRN web site and from future SRN publications or communications. Simply contact the SRN office to arrange this.We cannot however, withdraw your story from non-SRN websites. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the internet we can’t control who downloads stories or how these downloaded or printed versions are used. However, we will do our utmost to remove stories from third party websites (e.g. search websites like Google) and publications when requested to do so, but we cannot guarantee that all duplications of the stories (out with the SRN website) will be deleted. We cannot control third party access to stories. As recovery stories are not copyrighted, anyone has the right to disseminate or use them (for their own purposes). I have seen inspirational quotes from stories used on the SRN site, will you use quotes from my story in this way?In order to assist the message of recovery in our presentations and publications, we sometimes use quotes from stories submitted on the website. We always provide reference for these quotes where individuals have chosen to share their identity (or pseudonyms) with their story. Please contact us if you have further questions. Note that by submitting a story you are agreeing with the terms and conditions of the website. |
