WRAP stage 1 complete - what next?

Monday, 14 April 2008
We are happy to report that, throughout March and April, three Stage 1 Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) training courses - each with a maximum of 15 participants - were successfully delivered in Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. Initial feedback from these two-day events has been extremely encouraging.

Participants who successfully completed one of these two-day WRAP courses will now be able to apply to go on and develop their skills further by becoming a WRAP facilitator (stage 2 training). This opportunity will also be available to anyone who has undertaken WRAP training out with the three most recent courses.

The facilitator level training involves a five day training course. Completing this facilitator course qualifies participants to go on and support others to develop their own WRAP, by delivering stage 1 training (two-day WRAP courses) to appropriate individuals, groups and organisations throughout local communities in Scotland. This second level training will be led by the Copeland Center, who monitor and support the use of WRAP internationally. The facilitator level training is scheduled to take place in Edinburgh from Mon 9th June - Fri 13th June 2008.

Thanks to support from the Scottish Government, stage 2 training (facilitator level training) will be offered free of charge - including accommodation, if required. We will also reimburse reasonable travel expenses to people who are unwaged.

Please note there will only be 18 places available on the facilitator’s course, so we are not going to be able to award a place to everyone who has completed the stage 1 training.

In assessing applications for stage 2 (facilitator) training we will be examining two key criteria:
  1. Applicants for stage 2 will be required to demonstrate how they have used WRAP since completing stage 1 to manage wellness in their own lives. It is important to remember that for WRAP to work effectively it needs, as far as possible, to be developed, owned and maintained by the person in recovery.
  2. Applicants for stage 2 will be required to evidence how they will roll-out their new skills as a WRAP facilitator to help appropriate individuals, groups and organisations develop their own WRAP (by delivering stage 1 training).
Application forms for the five day facilitator course (stage 2 training) will be made available at the end of April via the SRN update. The pack will give a greater sense of the level of support facilitators can expect from the Scottish Recovery Network, Scottish Government, and other key partners in disseminating WRAP training. It will also detail the level of commitment expected from facilitators themselves… for example, any expectation about how many courses facilitators may be expected to run in a given year.

We apologise for the tight timescales for the application process. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Paul Robb via This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by phoning 07880 623 973.
