A regular website item focusing on key SRN resources.

SRN’s 2009 national conference 'Making Recovery Real' involved 450 delegates including contributions from over  60 people in 12 sessions on a variety of topics. In an effort to share the information with those who were not able to attend the event and to ensure we had a record of the sessions, we made audio recordings of each presentation and made them available on our website along with pdfs of powerpoint presentations (if available).

The recordings cover a variety of topics, including personal perspectives on recovery; service and practice development; and wellness planning, and will be of use to anyone with an interest in recovery-related developments across Scotland.

Of particular interest will be the audio downloads from the session ‘World of Work: A discussion', which complement our latest article series around work and money. In this session, Chris White talks openly about his experience of becoming unwell and his recovery journey back into full-time work, touching on some complex issues, including the effect of welfare reforms. Sylvia Collumb offers a service provider perspective and gives an overview of the work in Glasgow to develop a Mental Health/Recovery Employability pathway.

Other sessions include:
Carers and informal supporters and recovery
Communicating recovery
Experience of Local Recovery Networks
Learning and Training in Recovery
Piloting Peer Support
Recovery and black and minority ethnic communities
Recovery focussed systems and practice
Service User movement: Involvement into leadership
Sharing stories and experience
Staying well – discussions about wellness planning
Using the Scottish Recovery Indicator to support good practice

Audio recordings that may be of particular interest:

“Who am I now?” – Tricia Burnet
10 years since first sharing her recovery story, Tricia talks about how her story and her feelings of sharing it have changed (From ‘Sharing stories and experience’)

What is a Peer Support Worker? – Lea Cummings, Peer Support worker

Lea talks about his experiences as a Peer Support worker, some of the challenges he’s faced, and how the Peer Support approach works in practice(From ‘Piloting Peer Support’)

Supporting Recovery: Family, informal carers and supporters – Hester Parr, University of Glasgow
Prior to starting this project, Hester was invited to offer an overview to the background and methodology of the small-scale ‘Supporting Recovery’ research project commissioned by SRN. (From Carers and informal supporters and recovery)

Oor Mad History: Reclaiming our history, reclaiming power - Kirsten Maclean, CAPS and Jim McGill, CAPS
Kirsten and Jim offer background information on this community history project and highlight the initial findings. (From Service user movement: Involvement to leadership)

Meaningful service user involvement – Shaun McNeil, Advocacy Matters / VOX, and Shona McNeil, Pure Mental
Shaun and Shona’s presentation examines some of the barriers which can hinder meaningful service user involvement and offers suggestions and ideas for improvement. (From Service user movement: Involvement to leadership)

These resources demonstrate the remarkable amount of work around recovery that is currently underway across Scotland.

You can either listen to the audio recordings on the website (recommended for slower connection speeds), or download them.

SRN has produced, commissioned and collected a wide range of stories, reports, information booklets, discussion papers, films and audio recordings. All are intended to be used freely and distributed widely. Please encourage colleagues, friends and family to explore the resources section of our website, or download our publications list.
