New collection of recovery stories

A new collection of thoughts on recovery has been published by Recovery Devon.

In Beyond the Storms, more than 25 people have contributed personal thoughts and reflections in the form of stories, poetry, artwork, inspiring quotes, and tips and techniques for recovery.

As Maria says in her story I love my life, on page 24, “the thing about hope is that it’s catching”, and whilst Beyond the Storms never shies away from tackling challenging themes, the emphasis is on what helps people to get and stay well.

Contributions include the songs and poems of Bryn Morgan Evans, Janet Proctor’s Encouragement Alphabet; and the personal story of consultant psychiatrist Glenn Roberts, and his experience of depression. Glenn is the lead on Recovery for the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The book is designed to be dipped into at leisure, with a particular focus on the lived experience of those with bipolar affective disorder and depression.

Beyond the Storms is the result of more than a year’s work and was edited by Laurie Davidson and Linden Lynn, who have also contributed their personal stories to the collection.
