Event Considers Peer Support Evaluation Findings |

On 19 November 2009, Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health in partnership with SRN are co-ordinating and facilitating a free event in Dundee designed to disseminate learning arising from the soon to be published evaluation of five peer support pilot schemes and to consider how best to support the development of the Peer Support Worker role. As a result of a commitment in Delivering for Mental Health pilot schemes were developed in five Health Board areas where Peer Support Workers were trained, and then employed, to fill new positions within NHS teams in a range of settings, including inpatient and community based services. The Scottish Recovery Network has supported the development of the Peer Support Worker role in mental health services. An evaluation was commissioned to assess the impact of the peer support pilot on service users, peer support workers and the wider service system as well as assessing the process of implementation at national and local levels. This event is being co-ordinated and facilitated by the Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health in partnership with the Scottish Recovery Network Building on the learning from the pilot sites and the independent evaluation SRN continue to work with SQA to develop a new Professional Development Award and learning materials in relation to peer support and recovery.
