We are happy to report that, throughout March and April, three Stage 1 Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) training courses - each with a maximum of 15 participants - were successfully delivered in Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Edinburgh. Initial feedback from these two-day events has been extremely encouraging. Participants who successfully completed one of these two-day WRAP courses will now be able to apply to go on and develop their skills further by becoming a WRAP facilitator (stage 2 training). This opportunity will also be available to anyone who has undertaken WRAP training out with the three most recent courses. The facilitator level training involves a five day training course. Completing this facilitator course qualifies participants to go on and support others to develop their own WRAP, by delivering stage 1 training (two-day WRAP courses) to appropriate individuals, groups and organisations throughout local communities in Scotland. This second level training will be led by the Copeland Center, who monitor and support the use of WRAP internationally. The facilitator level training is scheduled to take place in Edinburgh from Mon 9th June - Fri 13th June 2008. Thanks to support from the Scottish Government, stage 2 training (facilitator level training) will be offered free of charge - including accommodation, if required. We will also reimburse reasonable travel expenses to people who are unwaged. Please note there will only be 18 places available on the facilitator’s course, so we are not going to be able to award a place to everyone who has completed the stage 1 training. In assessing applications for stage 2 (facilitator) training we will be examining two key criteria:

| Black women, recovery and resilience |
16 May In a specially commissioned article for SRN, researcher and psychiatric survivor Dr Jayasree Kalathil explores the issues of recovery and resilience from the perspective of black women interviewed for a 2011 study by Survivor Research and the Mental Health Foundation. While the article focuses on recent data from England, there are important lessons to be learnt everywhere, including Scotland. |
| What mental health practitioners talk about, when they talk about SRI 2 |
16 May Having recently facilitated Learning Networks on the use of the updated Scottish Recovery Indicator (SRI 2), SRN’s John McCormack was keen to hear from practitioners about their use of the tool and how it affects practice in the field. Here John shares his discussions with Lindsay Kerr and Jan Thomson who both work in NHS Ayrshire and Arran’s Mental Health Services. |
