Are you really listening?

Through the ‘Mosaics of Meaning’ research in Glasgow (Glasgow Anti Stigma Partnership 2007) it was found that the stigma associated with mental health problems among black and minority ethnic (BME) communities have a major impact on people’s wellbeing. As part of ‘Mosaics of Meaning’ a story telling project was set up and has since produced a booklet entitled Are you really listening? (PDF) which contains stories about stigma, discrimination and resilience towards mental health problems among black and minority ethnic communities in Scotland.

It was put together with the intention of it being used as a resource for:

minority ethnic communities to support an understanding about mental health problems and to tackle the stigma often associated with such problems within communities.
staff working in organisations as an awareness raising and training resource to enhance understanding about peoples’ experiences of mental health problems, stigma and discrimination in the context of ethnicity, race and culture.
