Local Recovery Networks

The Scottish Recovery Network is committed to promoting the messages of recovery in local communities. We understand that our activity at a national level must be complemented and supported by local activity. Across Scotland a number of Local recovery networks and groups provide a neutral place for people with mental health problems, carers and families, and service providers to come together to discuss the concept of recovery, ways to promote it and how make it real for people in their community.

Building a capacity for Recovery

SRN has worked with communities across Scotland to explore the idea of recovery and investigate the potential for establishing local networks.

As a result of this activity local recovery networks are now in existence in Lothian, Tayside, Ayrshire and Arran, Lanarkshire, Highland, Renfrewshire and Glasgow.

Each area has defined its own focus of work and they are involved in a wide range of recovery related activities including:
  • Training and awareness raising
  • Developing local recovery strategies
  • Conferences and events
  • Recovery stories DVD and publications
  • Community outreach
  • BME recovery groups and WRAP
As the established networks continue to grow we are keen to support the development of local networks elsewhere and continue to welcome opportunities to do so.  If you are interested in discussing the development of a local network in your area contact us.

We had a meeting where it felt that everyone was arguing, and I thought ‘it’s all falling apart’. But afterwards several people said how good it was to have an opportunity to talk about how recovery means different things to different people, and to be able to have a disagreement and still respect each other as people. And then I realised, that’s what a recovery network is.
