Experts by Experience – SRN announce September conference on peer working

Scottish Recovery Network (SRN) are delighted to announce that registration is now open for its next national conference, being held in Perth on 21st September 2011. Experts by Experience will provide a platform for people across Scotland to come together to learn about the exciting developments in peer working happening around the country and to explore its development.

perthconcerthall_photo1We are putting together a lively programme of speakers and contributors, including as keynote the international author, trainer and peer support expert, Shery Mead. Delegates will hear about peer working developments in Scotland and further afield, and have a chance to learn more about the unique role of peer workers in supporting recovery.

Plenary sessions and workshops will explore themes including:
  • Understanding the peer worker role
  • The rationale and evidence for developing peer working
  • Training and support for peer workers
  • Debunking myths around developing peer worker roles
  • Good practice in developing peer worker roles and how to overcome challenges
At the event SRN will also launch the new ‘Experts by Experience’ guidelines which are designed to support the development of peer workers roles - as well as provide an update on the recently developed national qualification ‘Mental Health Peer Support’.

The Experts by Experience conference is intended for those interested in developing recovery focussed services, including mental health strategy leads and planners, service providers, people with personal experience, peer workers and those interested in providing training.

We look forward to an event bringing passionate and enthusiastic people together to learn with and from each other, leading to a growing workforce of peer workers in Scotland to complement and enhance mental health services.

What an amazing participatory opportunity. I would love to attend. I firmly agree, it's time time that focussed alternative needs need to be explored more in Australia and people who are the experts, by experience start to forge them.

The work being done with the Peer support is fantastic, what a difference it makes to the people who are in need. I hope to see it everywhere as its really needed, well done.
