The Scottish Association for Mental Health are conducting a survey to consult on proposed cuts and reforms.
The UK Government recently announced that it will cut the national budget for Disability Living Allowance (DLA). In Scotland, 61,100 people receive DLA due to a mental health problem, all of whom are likely to be affected in some way by the proposed cuts and reforms.
The Government has said that the cuts will be achieved through changes that will make the DLA more efficient. Starting in 2012/13, the DLA will be replaced by a Personal Independence Payment (PIP). This will be divided into two components – a Mobility Allowance and a Daily Living Allowance. There will also be a new system for deciding the eligibility of applicants for the benefit.
To inform people of the coming changes, the UK Government has released a consultation document to explain the changes and seek input from relevant organisations.
As part of it's Dismissed? campaign on mental health and employability, SAMH will be responding to the consultation, along with other mental health organisations, and wants to hear of your experiences and opinions to inform their response.
