REFOCUS trial protocol and manual now available online

The REFOCUS programme trial to test the effectiveness of the REFOCUS intervention within community mental health teams in England is due to start soon.

refocusonrecovery_logoREFOCUS is a 5-year programme of research funded by the National Institute of Health Research, which aims to support the development of a recovery orientation in community mental health teams in England. Part of the REFOCUS programme is the REFOCUS Trial which will test the effectiveness of the REFOCUS intervention within community mental health teams.

The REFOCUS study aims to develop:
  • Recovery-focused fidelity measures and outcome measures
  • Manualised recovery interventions
  • Randomised controlled trial evidence
The objectives of the REFOCUS trial are to:
  • Establish the effectiveness of the intervention described in the REFOCUS manual
  • Validate the REFOCUS intervention model
  • Establish and optimise trial parameters for the REFOCUS
  • Understand the relationship between clinical outcomes and recovery outcomes
The REFOCUS trial  is taking place in adult, community-based mental health teams in South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLaM) Psychosis Clinical Academic Group (CAG) and 2gether (Gloucestershire) NHS Trusts. The trial intervention lasts 18 months, but the recruitment of teams into the trial will be staggered over a 12 month period.
