SRN are delighted that 58 people from across Argyll and Bute joined us for our Making Recovery Real Roadshow event in Oban on February 24th 2010. The day focused on raising awareness about recovery and encouraging people to think about what could be done locally to support recovery. David Bertin, Service Development Manager—Mental Health from Argyll and Bute CHP and NHS Highland, helped to open the event and welcomed delegates and offered some context to the current redevelopment of mental health services in Argyll and Bute. Like the event in Thurso, the day featured lots of conversation and participation. When asked what they found most enjoyable about the day, people said: "Considering I had never heard of 'recovery' it was both useful and enjoyable and informative in shared experiences." "Not feeling any stigma attached and being able to talk freely about feelings and experiences and and not being judged or looked at strangely!" "Group discussions other people with similar ideas and aspirations for changing things." "Meeting people. Knowing more about mental illness. Understanding more." SRN are keen to build on the connections made at the Oban event and have committed to writing up a report about the day as well as organising a follow up meeting . In the meantime, there are a series of Public Information Events hosted by the CHP on the future of mental health services in Argyll & Bute. For more information click here.
