Hosted by: SRN

In September 2001, SRN hosted a national conference on peer support, Experts by Experience. Around 200 delegates from around Scotland and beyond gathered at the Perth Concert Hall.

The event was intended for those interested in developing recovery focussed services, including mental health strategy leads and planners, service providers, people with personal experience, peer workers and those interested in providing training. It provided a platform for people across Scotland to come together to learn about the exciting developments in peer working happening around the country and to explore its development.

All conference documents and speaker presentations are available by clicking on the 'Experts by Experience' title above.

Our keynote speaker was international peer support expert Shery Mead. In advance of the conference, Shery wrote a specially commissioned article for us: "Peer Support: what is it and what makes it different?" There were many contributions from a range of agencies and peer support experts during the parallel workshop sessions. Their presentations are also available.

Want to ensure your providing recovery focused peer support working? Take a look at SRN's new peer support implementation guidelines, Experts by Experiencelaunched at the conference.

We'll be uploading filmed footage of the conference in the next few weeks. In the meantime, you can see a selection of photographs taken by Becky Duncan.
